Nyungwe Forest, Rwanda

Nyungwe Forest National Park is a spectacular and ecologically rich rainforest located in southwestern Rwanda, near the border with Burundi and Lake Kivu. Covering over 1,000 square kilometers, it is one of the oldest and most well-preserved montane rainforests in Africa.

  3. Hiking and Trails The park features over 130 kilometers of hiking trails, leading through dense forest, waterfalls, swamps, and ridges. These trails range from short nature walks to full-day treks and provide immersive experiences in this ancient ecosystem.

  4. Conservation and Significance Nyungwe plays a crucial role in water catchment, feeding the Congo and Nile River basins. It also supports local communities through eco-tourism, job creation, and sustainable conservation programs.
